Overview

Tamang Heritage Trail Trek – A perfect amalgamation of remote hiking experience with fascinating Tamang Culture in the Lap of Gigantic Langtang Range.

If you are someone who wishes to hike in isolated parts of the Himalayas and study rustic lifestyle & intact culture, 15 Days Tamang Heritage Trail Trek is the perfect answer for you. In 15 days of Tamang Heritage Trail Trek, you will walk deep into the core of the mountain, visit local heritage and spend nights at local houses to get firsthand experience of warm Tamang culture; their Buddhist beliefs, and handicrafts.

The Tamang tribes are originally Tibetan Horse traders who settled in the hilly region of Nepal centuries ago and are an ethnic mountain group with a fascinatingly unique culture and discrete identity.

The Tamang Heritage Trail meanders through Langtang National Park and explores a dramatic area between the Ruby and Langtang Valleys: at comfortable altitude. The villages along the trail are highly scheduled and you still can experience the ancient spirit, norms, and values.

Besides the cultural aspects, the Tamang Heritage Trek offers outstanding views of the Langtang range and Ganesh Himal with a magical view of Paldor and Shishapangma (tallest mountain in Tibet). The Hot Spring in Tatopani gives you natural relief to your tired muscles.

About Tamang Heritage Trail Route

The Tamang Heritage Trail Route negotiates numbers of ridges and winds through beautiful farmlands, grasslands, and sub-tropical forests with the view of towering peaks most of the time. The forest on the trail is a common home to a variety of exotic floral species where beautiful vegetation along with Langur monkeys, red pandas, leopards, musk deer, and birds thrive in their natural environment.

This 15 days cultural trip starts in Kathmandu valley with visits to four UNESCO protected world heritage sites.  The next day, you will take a scenic northwest drive to Devighat and then drive northeast up the Trisuli River valley to Syabru Bensi. Syabru Bensi is the starting point of the trek.

The first day of the trek negotiates snaky hill routes and gradually climbs up the Rongga Ridge before heading towards Gatlang which dots traditional stone houses. Then the trail heads north to Tatopani through Chilime hydropower dam where a hot spring bath is a relaxing retreat.

From Thuman, you will head towards Briddim – the village groomed with age-old Tibetan culture and Buddhism flavor. There are 43 families in Briddim and about half of these families offer accommodation facilities in their home.  Your next stop is at Lama Hotel (about six hours trek) through moderate ups and downs in hilly terrain. Walking through dense forest, you will pass water mills, mani walls, and chortens to reach Langtang Valley.
